Dear Sisters and Brothers:
During this crisis it is imperative for us to support each other in this time of need.
Members who had moderate to severe losses will need our support more than ever before. That support will take many different forms, from financial to emotional. Some will have needs as basic as food and clothing. Others will need something as simple as a ride to work until they can repair or replace damaged or lost vehicles or to help conserve gas until the shortage is over. Others may need temporary housing until they can sort out their lives.
I count my blessings that the worst I have personally experienced has been the loss of heat, phone, Internet and power...all minor inconveniences. My home sustained no damage and my family and friends are all safe and accounted for. Many others were not as fortunate and have suffered losses that will take many months to recover from.
As a first response the MEA will provide links to services that may help you start on the long road to recovery. Your Brothers and Sisters will be by your side with a shoulder to lean on.
As we return to work we will need to bend and even break "the rules" to help support our colleagues who are unable to return to work right away. I encourage you to think creatively. I ask that we all pitch in and cover each others classes, allow administration to shift personnel and resources and ignore caps on class sizes as we cover each others student loads.
We should recognize that the Manhasset Community has sustained hardships as well. All three buildings are being used as temporary shelters to provide warmth, food and a place for residents to recharge cell phones so they can stay in contact with family, friends and loved ones. We need to reach out to students who will need our help and support.
I hope that whatever higher-power you may believe in will provide for your, comfort you and protect you. Your Sisters and Brothers will also be at your side through the long road to recovery.
Please do not hesistate to contact me.
In Support and Solidarity,
Ed
