What is the Benefits Trust?
Section 4.02 of the MEA contract states, “A. The Association has created a Benefits Trust Fund to be established and maintained by the Association for the benefit of its members, in place of current District-provided life and/or dental insurance.” “B. Effective July 1, 2014, the District’s annual contribution shall be $1,000.00 per teacher.”
MEA members serve as trust chairperson, treasurer, secretary and trustees. We meet with representatives from our legal provider, accountant, financial advisor and third party administrator. Along with guidance from these professionals, the trustees make decisions regarding benefits offered to all MEA members.
The trust provides benefits in the following areas: dental, vision, hearing aid, supplemental, legal services, financial advice and life insurance. While some benefits are extended to members’ spouses and children, we provide the most benefits to the member only. This is most evident in our dental coverage benefit.
Dental, Vision, Hearing Aid and Supplemental benefits require forms to be submitted.
